I first began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in October of 2014 under Professor Ben Lindhout of Kalamazoo BJJ. Then in April of 2018 I started training Judo at Grand Rapids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Sensei Brandon Francis. Brandon introduced me to Instructor Jim Murray and I continued my Judo training at Godai Judo. With Jim’s instruction I achieved the rank of Yonkyu (2nd green belt). During this time I continued to train BJJ as well. Moreover, in 2020 I earned my purple belt from Professor Ben Lindhout
I am married and have a teenage daughter. I work at Stryker Instruments in Portage Mi. I have worked there for 15 years. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. My family and I enjoy the wonderful countryside and outdoor activities that Barry County has to offer.
I have grown from the mental and physical challenges of competition in wrestling, judo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In addition, I also enjoy other exercises such as competitive running, obstacle courses, indoor rock climbing, mountain biking, and weight lifting. However, the mental challenge of BJJ continues to fascinate me the most. Owing to the fact that it is an art in which a technically trained person can outmaneuver formidable opponents and achieve victory.
During my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey I have had the opportunity to train with many knowledgeable practitioners who have shared their expertise with me. I look forward to sharing these skills and encouraging those who are new to the art of BJJ.
